so it begins. . .
so, next Tuesday is my birthday. may 24th. and I am a b-day freak. I always try to make a huge deal of mine, and I always have a lot of fun. And, good things always happen around my birthday, like Stephanie mentioning this new fabric thrift shop, about 3 minutes from my house-where these lovely fabrics came from.
and these wonderful little buttons. The prices at this place are garage sale prices-I couldn't believe it.

amazing patterns, which are a real weakness for me right now, even more than fabric. left to right, starting at the top row: we have a transfer, mushroom needlework kit, crocheted hat and mittens patterns, more needlework on a swanky shirt, more embroidery transfers, decals for crafts projects, and a great flower needle work kit.
a special little bird dish, that I couldn't resist

and "oh my god, I'm freakin' out" crocheted bird patterns! okay-really I just about lost it when I found these. I need to learn how to crochet NOW. These are all worked in what appears to be single crochet, in a circle, not hard right? Imagine the cool color combos, wool types (fuzzy yellow mohair! pink and red alpaca! add some crazy stripes,we are ready to go!) ohhhh.
**update** April 2007-
I have been getting requests to swap/copy/trade these patterns with people, and unfortunately this post is 2 years old and I no longer have these patterns-sorry!

I just emailed you about the peacock pattern, it is just so cute! I love birthdays as well, mine is in June and I'm planning a summer garden party I think.

You definitely scored some great finds! I hope people will support this store so they can stay in business-the owners seemed very friendly. I hope they offer some classes soon!

Amy, I'm glad you had good luck at the knittin' kitten. They had not put any of that stuff out when I was there...good for you as I would have bought it! Those crochet birds! I have to get copies for my sister. (She and I don't know how to crochet...but we can learn!) Can you believe the prices there?
Happy, happy birthday week...see you soon?
ps: I did almost buy that little pink flower fabric - so sweet!

So funny that you just scored those bird crochet patterns... I had just seen an ad for them in a vintage needlework magazine and decided that I *must* find them! Great score!

i covet those buttons, and yessss, you scored. I went the next day and got a bit of this and that (18" lengths of ball-fringe in misc fab 70's colors - what on earth will I do with that? - all for $.35, so in a drawer it goes until I figure out what will be adorned with the lovely ball-fringe. Oh wait, I know... I can tape it together and then tape it to the upper edge of our volvo wagon windshield -- RAD!

Crochet madness! And you're right, single crochet is not hard at all - I (re-)taught myself how to crochet from a book - I learned ages ago from a friend's mum and have never done it since, but it was really easy to get back into it. Good luck! And late happy birthday too!
