quilt monday-inspiration

Sc00f1a207

all these great photos come from an issue of Quilts Japan, (2002, #5-not sure how you would get back issues-but here's where to buy current ones), a magazine that Kelly let me borrow from her amazing collection of Japanese craft books and magazines. I believe this magazine comes out 6 times a year. It's pretty thick and has patterns, although I think it would be easier for me to make my own patterns for most of these projects-just so I don't have to keep referring to something not in English-also-if I make it up as I go, it can never be wrong!

love this skirt and top-but I think making the semi-circles on the skirt would cause lots of swearing.

tons of color- I really like the apron with the stripes turned to an angle

I really love these colors together a "so ugly it's awesome" color combo.. I think it's time for me to make some tea cozies-I seem to be showing them all the time.

I really like the little apple tree. Velcro fun-time for the babies.

Thanks for the eye candy. I love the 'so ugly it's cute' concept, applied to everything. Breaks up the sameness of familiar combinations. Next year the Coach bags will be olive green, brown & yellow!

These are very inspiring. I love the way these Japanese quilters interpret traditional piecing. The classic hour glass paired with a snowball that's curved. Very cool. Hope everyone had a super Mother's Day. I sure did ;-)

that skirt is stunning!

Thanks for sharing those beautiful photos and ideas!

why are the japanese soo much cooler than us? and aren't the publishers just sooo fabulous to support such amazing, beautiful crafty ideas? Thanks for sharing, Amy. Thank Kelly for me. amazing. it kills me.

love the pictures!
We have a word in our circles for things that are "so ugly it's awesome" or "so very tacky it's fabulous." that word is g00d - spelled with 2 zeros and rhymes with food. Originated back in the days of 2400baud bbsing(!). I would definitely call that tablecloth g00d. Things can also be g00d and good at the same time...

Ay yi yi! Your inspriation and temptation to buy fun japenese craft books may well lead me to go broke! Seriously, I had no idea that such a world existed, thanks so much for sharing!

I love Quilts Japan! Seeing all this beautiful stuff is really pushing me toward a subscription. Thanks to you and Kelly for sharing!

Wow- gorgeous stuff. The bags are fantastic too- very inspiring for "backtack" swap. Thanks for sharing such inspiring ideas yet again.
ps- I finally made my Donna Hay tarts the other week- http://clementineshoes.blogspot.com/2005/04/donna-hay-tarts.html

OMG, I love the skirt too but I think you're right about the semi-circles. I wonder how else I could get that effect...

those skirts are fabulous the second one and the first one. I really the asymetrical thing.

SO INSPIRING...I am completely in love with that beautiful skirt! hmmm...if only I knew how to quilt...

I really like the apron in the first picture, with the little flowers. I think the Japanese people are born with stylish prettiness in their blood... I'm hoping it's contagious!

so cool! I love the toys!
