tie one on-mixed media

22405_982

*Quilt Monday will return when I find/write an amazing quilt post, or when I make a quilt, or, you know, otherwise get it together. Until then. . .*

The most amazing thing happened earlier this week. Pete was cleaning the kitchen with a baby on a hip and Sadie on the floor and said to me "you know, I'd really like an apron." what??? holly crap! Thinking about it, I shouldn't have been surprised. Pete's a pretty neat and tidy guy, and also, working grocery for over 12 years, spent many a day with an apron and a box knife. (this was before he turned into a computer.) So, I jumped to make him one, obviously, and although the Mapron will at some point be an upcoming theme, I couldn't let this opportunity go.

So, I wouldn't say Pete is fussy (but he is) so I'll just say he knows exactly what he likes. Heavy cotton duck, in brown, long, but not too long, no pockets and no gimmicks. But I had to get the mixed media theme in. . .

and here it is. on the 2 matching ovenmits are the two main recipes Pete bakes. Corn bread and pizza dough. Now he'll have the recipe right there!

I used the ridiculously expensive computer fabric sheets because I have had no luck sending waxed paper backed fabric through the printer and I don't have the bubble jet stuff yet. Pete is happy, I am happy and we had pizza last Friday night.

You left out the part where you said, 'Ravish me you sexy apron man, you.' How clever to include the recipes. This is a great idea for Grandma Oven Mitts, too! xoxo Kay

awesome! LOVE the recipe on the pot holder idea. genius.

Wow! What a great idea with the recipes. Love it.

Hey, I could make one with robots or goat for Rob! His bday is coming up in December...mmmm..ideas...Yours is so neat.

I like it, it's very manly. Great idea for the oven mitts. I'm all for the expensive fabric sheets, I'm afraid I'm going to mess up my printer with the other stuff.

What a great idea! And the mapron... they should all have one :)

Those mits do keep a recipe--ah--handy!
Pete, I share your no-frills apron preference for wearing, but making fancy ones is lots of fun, too!

so CLEVER! very nice looking set and you're a good wife for not making him wear something embroidered and bias-trimmed just in the name of a theme :)

The oven mitt recipes are such a great idea Amy! The whole ensemble is very manly :)

What a great apron. It's just Pete's style. I love the recipe potholders, too. Real men do wear aprons! Pete's mom.

I was thinking about making a man-pron for my husband, as he likes to grill, and he is constantly getting something on his clothes.

Great idea to put the recipes on the oven mits! Did you use 2 layers of batting for the mits? I'd love to hear what really works well as insulation...

Very manly and rather sexy! I might make Kev one although i doubt he'd wear it, it takes his boss a lot of effort to get him to wear one at work!

aren't you a clever one. i like the thick brown fabric too. very mapronly.

love the mapron; love the recipe oven mitts even more. great idea -- and carried out well too!

Love it! But how can he not like pockets? What is wrong with men ;)

mixed media, mapron and pizza dough all wrapped up into one! what's not to like? excellent brown fabric, where did you find it!!!???

i found it where I found the corduroy you were asking about, fabric depot. it's not a chain, just a big ass local fabric shop . . they sell online, but I have no idea if the online inventory is very good. sorry! this might only just help. . .

ha! brilliant. reminds me a bit of being in grade school and having notes pinned to my shirt. but that makes it all the more amusing. :)

great color and recipe idea! i should do the same for myself since i only make about two things :)

bloody brilliant! well done you.

That is such a great idea!!! I love it!!! :D SO funny :D

kelly-
they work OKAY. 2 layers of flannel. so, i'd say 4 layers would be better. . .they work as long as you don't hold on too long! ;)

very, very cool. such a clean design. i am bound and determined to get in on the tie one on game one of these days. i finally found a copy of that marvelous roxa wright book so now i really have no excuse!

Great idea :)

LOVE it! So does Steve. He has two recipes too--enchiladas and carrot soup. Perhaps he needs some oven mitts to remember them. ;)
And what a dear Pete is to first ASK for an apon, watch the kids while you MAKE the apron, and then wear and POSE in the apron. Very cool guy.

FYI....Bubble jet or laser printing is NOT permanent on regular fabric. I recently found this out when I tried to watercolor an old black and white photo on fabric. For cutsie projects that are not going to have any water contact regular fabric is great. There must be soem sort of spray or something that you could use on it but I have yet to discover it. Maybe one of the great artist you know know what you could use to make it waterproof. I feel so bad as I think I'm the one who suggested it. I'm thankful you used that special fabric. Just thought you should know.
PS....Love the mapron and the mitts. And your little red riding hood is gonna be soooo sweet.
