baked goods & life stuff

Sc1083cecf

This is from a vintage cookbook I have, pamphlet sized, and I love these, especially when I can actually cook from them. (Unlike the jell-o ones, which I love to look at, but I can't stand jell-o.) It's been so dark and rainy here this week that the baking bug has bit. I'm going to try one of these recipes this weekend. I need to get cake yeast first. . .

These illustrations and this green stripe are so pleasing. I also love it that the page numbers are spelled out. That is so cool and should be re-introduced in all books. Especially in books that have a lot of pages. (If you click on this photo, you can actually read this recipe if you squint hard enough.)

I love baking. I love it immensely. I started by making scones in early high school after going to London on a trip and have never turned back. But, now I am officially (yes, it's official) trying to get some baby weight off . Delia is 14 months now, so I'm a bit behind, and my downfall is baked goods. Baking means so much to me, it's hard to even verbalize it. So, since the Christmas Swedish braid bread, I have baked nothing (except some banana bread and Hillary's b-day cookies, which I didn't eat, I swear) So I think I can make something this weekend because I have been really, really good.

Here's the cover of this little book. Love the big apron and the bold graphic dress.

Along with cutting down on my baked goods, I am also working part time now (at home) on some design projects in my "spare time" (ha!), and Pete, starting this Monday, is no longer working at home, which had been the case for the last 1 1/2 years. Big changes for this household. Pete actually has to wear pants now and I won't get my nice husband backup when the girls go crazy during the witching hours, which is about 3:30-5:00. They all jiggy then, I don't know why, they just do!

I'm trying to stay positive, but I will miss him terribly and I know he will really miss us too. It's not like he's even commuting or anything, I mean he's only downtown, about a 15 minute drive from the house, but we like having him home. We got some camera phones and set up instant messenger. Change is good. Change is good. Change is good.
