I don't sew blouses.
wow! thank you all so much for the blog b-day wishes! so very cool. thank you-really. a whole lot.
I have been fixating on this type of blouse. high collar, or no collar, can't decide what to call it besides cold. looks really cold. especially for breastfeeding (how well do you really want to know me?) but I want one just like this one and can't spend anthropologie money. God, their clothes are too expensive for what they are, you know? but, I love looking there so much. I realized that I have spent so much time looking online for blouses, that really, I could have sewed one in that time. I even have a dress form (thanks MIL!) but I hate sewing blouses. hate it. all the buttons and details. I'm more of a skirt garment sewer. .by the time I can actually wear this blouse and not freeze it will be on sale anyway.(That would be about late July with Portland weather.)
So much is going on right now I can't keep up! Hillary has a amazing new site, it's so very cool and Amanda and Stephanie have new shops (and looks like they are almost sold out already!) Sarah has a new blog, (just like her old new, but with a clever new name and her shop is right there!) and I'm sure a ton more, but my brain is fried and babies are crying. and I am still blogging (negligent mom.)
**mailorder info** You all should be getting issue #1 very soon if you haven't already. If you found the secret word go to kingpod to redeem your prize. Under papergoods/mailorder. And subscribers, hang tight to your special club decoder ring, the code will be in issue #2. And, just so you all know, there will be about 150ish single issues available (this is not including the subscriber issues, dig?) for #2 and #3, so if you didn't get in on the 3 month subscription, please don't fret, you can get them singly when they ae available..

i'm in total agreement over anthropologie prices, but their stuff is such eye candy. i look thru their magazines over and over...
the mailorder was so much fun! cannot wait to use the decoder ring in #2!

i don't think i've ever sewn a shirt but next on my list is retrofitting this. it's no blouse but it sure would be easy to sew. i'm dying to know what it will look like on.

Dude, the blouse I want from Forever SluttyOne is kinda sorta like that, but it's silk chiffon with teeny polka dots!

god, that shirt is cute. but yes, not so good for life. i see peanut butter and some breastmilk stains all over it. Oops. The edging at the bottom? Oh my.

i was out of town the day you released issue #1 and now i'm seeing the cute wallet on other blogs - i'm so jealous!

Yep this blouse is gorgeous, and have to agree no good for feeding, the thought of all those buttons, or the alternative of hoisting that tailored shirt up is just no good!

I agree wholeheartedly about anthro all the way around - but they do have some pretty good sales! I try to march straight back to the store so I don't covet all the overpriced loveliness in the front.

amy the mailorder is absolutely 100% fantastic! got it yesterday @ my door and what a thrill. cannot wait to project-away. i'll mosdef be splurging every month!!! :)

Really, Amy, if anyone can figure this out, it is you! You are such a talented crafter. I have no doubts you could figure out this pattern and soon make it way better (like with invisible breast feeding pockets)!

Funny that you picture this blouse, as I have actually have a strange obession with shirts with those sleeves and collars! And yes anthropologie is ridiculously expensive, but H&M has excellent versions for SO much less, in all different colors.

I had the (un)fortunate experience of working there for a few months, and i know for sure that that blouse is on sale now... can't recall how much they marked it down, but sometimes you can find a deal there in the sale room, just have to fight everyone else back there...

The mail order made it all the way to England for the 21st. It's fantastic (but I've not found the secret word yet.)

I was in Portland over the weekend and had someone looking after the house while I was gone. She talked to my housemate and said "A big red envelope is here for deb"
Uh Oh. Red Envelopes are never good.
Right?
Bad things come in red envelopes.
Late bills, warning notices etc.
Imagine my delight and surprised when I arrived home on Sunday to find that it was Mailorder!

I'm nutz for Anthropologie too! There's only so much JCrew and Urban Outfitters I can take before I need a more sophisticated and creative infusion of style. Not that I can afford it though! :)

England already has their mailorder, but poor lil' ol' me in Memphis has not received it yet... Maybe it will waiting for me when I get home... If not, I'll have to get onto my mailman... he is a rapper by night and his name is "Da Gorilla". Ah, Memphis...

I am an Anthropologie-a-holic. It is my favorite shop of all time. I agree that the prices are high, but honestly -- there is no other place that has as much charm in their garments. Almost everything they have there makes me gasp in delight! Since I buy almost all of my clothes (probably 90%) at thrift stores, Every now and then I will splurge on something that I love from Anthropologie.
I agree that blouses are hard. With all the time and the damn princess seams (too hard for me), the blouse starts to look like a steal at $68!
I love this blog. I really do!

Mail order arrived! What fun to find something wonderful in the box. My dd was totally jealous that and bummed that I wouldn't let her color it. (Maybe you should do mailorder for kids.) Thanks so much.

That blouse is lovely! I don't know if you're serious that you want one, but if you do I'd be happy to make you one for a trade. I'm a professional seamstress and although I hate sewing clothes for myself I do actually find it quite thrilling to sew for others. :) The offer stands, it's fine either way if you take it or pass on it.

So if you did maybe want to try (italics everywhere) and sew something like that, I would start with New Look 6407... it reads "easy" with a little flower next to it. It's similar-- but a bit more forgiving in style. I dunno. But I'm giving it a go this weekend, so I'll let you know how I come out.

right there with you on the blouses... i'm still too pattern-challenged to tackle anything lager than my palm sized stuffies. ;)

Go to www.redoute.co.uk, search box write "tipster blouse" and there is one VERY similar to your green version. I didn't look thru all the blouses however so there may be something right on the money.
they have sites for different countries but the uk version loads really fast.
(cheap, too)

I have this one printed out for my "to make list" You could find a blouse with a silimar collar (seen some at Target) and just alter the sleeves and hem, atleast that's what I planned to do.
And breastfeeding doesnt last forever, ;)

Wow, people in England have already got there Mail Order envelopes. I live in New York and still haven't received mine yet.
Boo hoo.

anth...so cute but too much $$$--agree, i got a pattern after going to that store for the first time (i live in france) to try and copy their style...thinking just along the thoughts you shared above, breastfeeding too and can you imagine trying to get those buttons undone with the baby screaming for food? i am about to stop feeding any day now. anyway, the pattern i got was new look 6515 top and 6953 for the skirt. but to be worn post breastfeeding!
Posted by: susan | February 26, 2006 at 06:43 AM
This shirt is cute! But, if I wore it (not that I have the $$$ to buy this kind of shirt) It would definitely have breastmilk circles in the most obvious places! Not so attractive then! I tried making a blouse once. TOTAL DISASTER!!:)
