smocks and bags

smock and an altered men's shirt

I am digging the idea of wearing a smock dress around the house. Over my clothes. Kind of like the one I have made for the girls, only less like a 3 year old would wear. I love this one on the right and the one of the left is an altered men's shirt, I think. With ribbon? I can't quite tell. And I don't think it's a smock, but more like a button up dress. .
These are from the spring issue of Cotton Friend (the isbn is on flickr, just click on this photo)

bags

And I love these two bags on the right side here, especially this fuzzy sporty number in the bottom right corner. Maybe it's a bit woolly for spring/summer, but something about it says tennis to me, which seems springy.

Easter is a week away and I have nothing to show for it. Well, nothing handmade except my wee bunny. I still need to make him a friend. There is frozen sugar cookie dough in the freezer waiting to be cut out into bunnies and eggs and flowers, so that will be on the agenda this week. And I checked this book out of the library that was suggested in the cook book post comments and I am loving it so much. Some really good recipes in there.

Besides that not too much to report. I'm scheming ridiculous ideas-I have big plans around here for a podcast play I want to put on, that would involve a horse because I have always wanted to use coconut shells for sound effects, and possibly something involving puppets, but in a podcast, which is so funny to me because you would have no way of knowing they were puppets. And, speaking of puppets did you hear This American Life this week? The bit with Mr. Rogers was so great.

smocks are lovely! A good idea to keep clothes clean too, especially for kids. I love the clutch bag in your pics.

i didn't tune in this week, but that t.a.l. is an oldie-but-goodie (it's the one with davy rothbart, right?). my college boyfriend spent all his summers on nantucket and ended up fishing with mr. rogers several times in his teens and had many similar stories to tell of getting advice from mr r. what a man.

i love smocks and i wear them out and about over jeans. i probably look like a hugely-overgrown girl, but i'm too old to care.

Love the smocks! The bags too! I think this could be a new trend cause now I think a smock would be great too although I am sure it would look a million times cuter on you!!

Oooh, I love the smock idea. I saw a little gardening get-up in a British Magazine recently and showed DH, and he was like-- "um, I think the neighbors would think you looked a little silly in that", lol. Yeah, maybe I need a garden first before I can where the garden coveralls. A smock though, that would work!

PS- that's a great "tie one on" theme!

oh oh OH the pain of seeing those smocks. i mean those are so great it hurts. HURTS. i bought a couple of smocks recently and have been wearing them all over (mine leave the house, but like that clover one in the bonnet pic you spotted) but they are nothing, nowhere near as cool as these. i'm printing them out pronto, this will most definitely be attempted. oh geez amy, these are amazing.

Yes, I heard the Mr. Rogers's story on This American Life. It was great! Cute smocks and bags too!

Hi, I love all your stuffs very much. I will come back again.

I love your site!!! I'm somewhat new to blogging so I don't know how to personalize my site as much as I want to. Being a photoshop addict that annoys me to no end...i also checked out your website and am intrigued--i'd love to find out how you sell your stuff and got it all started. I had a shop in California and when I moved to Corvallis became a frustrated artist/crafter/entrepreneur...you are inspirational!

So nice...
I know I must be the 100000008th to tell you that, but I feel quite melancolic when I see all wonderful bonnets created around the world from your pattern. Soule mamas and Small Objects being my favourites. I so wish I had this pattern too.
You are a very talentful person.

I love the smock/dress thing! Really love the one with the chair! I just bought several from a girl who makes that style of dress with ribbon sinching in the back. The result is unexpected and sexy, but you need a skirt to obviously cover up your bum! She sells her stuff on Etsy as Lotus designs. I was lucky enough to buy a ton of stuff for $40 locally because she was selling out her past season's stuff! Score!

Oh my goodness, those dresses are fabulous! You make me want to try sewing something like that---you are my dear a trend setter, hurry and make yours so i can bask in the loveliness

That smock is cool! It looks like one I saw in a Japanese movie today. The Grandmother was wearing a smock that tied up the back in three places (and over her kimono), to go out and work in.
