very summer dress
I just finished this dress. The zipper was having an attitude problem. It's 22" long and was feeling all bunchy and so it went in twice. Ripping out zippers is the worst. This is very easy very vogue #7871 and really was very easy. Except for the zipper (I swear it was only about 60% me) it went together really fast and is so comfortable. really comfortable. Looking at the photo, I think that it could be a tad shorter. not sure if I will actually change that or not. And also I realize there is a unsightly cord in there and that this photo is a bit out of focus. . . with all the amazing photography on blogs now, a girl can't post a semi-crappy photo on a craft blog without getting a complex. . .must get better camera pronto. and/or use a tripod. or something.

Here's the pocket before I sewed the button on. I forgot to do that until I put it on for the photo. It took me way too long to decide which one, but I did okay in the end.

that is super cute! i really love the fabric you chose. :)

That's lovely! Making some clothes is something I have been intending to do, and you are giving me lots of inspiration!

Thanks for posting this. I really love the lines of this dress. Great fabric. I must get over my zipper anxiety. I've been thinking about using simple dress patterns for nightgowns. But not with the zipper. Maybe just use the front pieces for front and back. And for dresses too. Lovely. (Maybe that could be confusing for me. "Am I dressed? Am I out in public in my nightgown? Do I care?" Just imagine.)

Oh, that's so great Aim. It looks perfect for and on you. And I kinda like it that length, actually.

Pattern and print are fantastic, looks great on you. Maybe a bit shorter to my taste.
The plugged in status is just funny, nothing to worry about :-D

Friggin cutte!!! Keep the length. Nice work.

So cute. I'm afraid of zippers too. Never done one. I'm going to make a list of little skills that I need to learn, like putting in zippers, etc., and tackle them.

i love it. it looks so good on you, too! great!

22 inch zipper??? is that because you're so dang tall? that dress is so good as are those bangles. nice work lady.

ok - we're going to be twins! i just bought loads of that fabric (love!) to make the gored skirt i was rambling about... so cool! love that pattern - i may have to snatch that up too!

so very sweet! i just made myself a summer skirt, but maybe what i need is a summer dress...

Very cute dress! I totally suck at zippers, and I have never put in an invisible zipper. I don't understand those little plastic contraptions you are supposed to attach to the foot. What foot? Where? And you don't need to get a complex about photos--I always have insanely crappy photos on my blog, so that should make you feel really good about yours.

I don't think the photo is blurry and didn't notice the cord until you mentioned it, but did notice you had cute painted toenails! Love the dress and such awesome fabric!
Posted by:Emily | June 03, 2006 at 09:01 PM
I love the fabric and the pattern. I'm a bit torn as to whether I would shorten it if it was my dress. I think I probably would. But either way, its really really cute.

I am so happy to see someone else who likes dresses! They have become so scarce around here. Ah, just more reason for me to get busy with some sewing again! So very cute.

LOVE the dress. Perfect for summer! That fabric is one of my favorites!

hot! hot!
it's unfortunate that yer decapitated though. the dress would look even better with a head!
Posted by:Cara | June 04, 2006 at 03:13 AM
Ok, now I'm going to have to try sewing my own dress. You keep raising the bar (but thank you, as it keeps me from getting stuck in a rut of what is easy).

Great dress! The scale of that gorgeous print is perfect for this pattern. I love how your button picks of the center of the flowers. Very nice.

i'm gonna have to go out and buy that pattern - it's such a cute dress!

Good eye. Now that you've done that long zipper, you have smacked down its power. I agree that the next version could be shorter, but the print is so good and fresh and you.

Excellent choice of pattern, fabric and button and it all looks great.

Fantastico! What a great cut and beautiful, fun print.
Posted by:Beekeebear | June 04, 2006 at 09:41 AM
I am really impressed - could you tell a bit about the weight of the fabric, and is it linen, or just a plain woven cotton?
Posted by:wendy | June 04, 2006 at 12:57 PM
Its gorgeous and so is the fabric. I have not been brave enough to attempt sewing myself clothes just yet, so this is an inspiration

Wow, that is really pretty! I second all the comments about the fabric--what is it, where from? I'd love to know more.
Posted by:carrie | June 04, 2006 at 02:21 PM
BEAUTIFUL! The dress, the fabric, you! I'm sure many will stop to compliment you every time you wear it.
