it's too hot to be doing this-

on the chair

Wow! Thanks you all for the box bag love! I forgot how fun it is to paint on wood (except when it's not fun, if you know what I mean)

Here is box bag #2. She still smells like varnish. It's so flippin' hot here I'm amazed these things are drying. This is a dutch inspired type of design and I'd love to do one in black next, instead of the orange. I am still thinking about trying a stencil (freezer paper?) but my first attempt didn't work. I think the paint was too thin-so maybe a freezer paper stencil with thinker paint. I don't want it to look like tole painting, I am going to smooth even color. . .the pin cushion box that matches this is here, along with other photos. . .and I am happy to report that I am now the owner of my first Enid bag (en route) I have been trying for the last few days and finally got one. whew! that was a hard one!

Oh my god I'm late ! I missed your first box ! And this one is so amazing !! Great job my dear ! Smooches from Belgium :)

These are just fantastic!

beautiful!

Both boxe purses are amazing. I love the pin cushion box. I'd never seen such a thing (pincushion + box), but now I think I can't live without one. :) I'm adding that to my craft list right now.

Thank you for sharing these. I have a HUGE pile of cigar boxs. I need ideas. Clarice

Oh wow I love your purses. Also, thank you for introducing me to Enid Collins' bags - I had never heard of her until your post the other day and today I flicked through eBay just looking at all the wonderful designs. Blogging is so great for the spreading of ideas and inspirations.

What a great box bag! It's lovely! What a great idea.

I love your bags! I had never heard of these Enid bags before now...they are amazing!

If you want a nice tight crisp painted shape, try frisket and an Xacto knife. Or clear contact paper, but I know frisket is low tack.

Love your work, love your blog.

your post reminded me that i have an old enid collins box. now i'll have to post a picture of mine! (your own versions are lovely).

Wow!

You're so creative. You always make lovely stuff.

And the box, I just extremely love it!

Try friskets for your stencil. Durable, very sticky and tight seal but since they are designed to go on watercolor paper to mask areas, they are also very gentle on the surface. You can run the sheet style through a printer usually although I am not sure about a copier. You can cut a negative and a positive if you are good with an x-acto and get two stencils from one piece.

I love these box purses. I like the picture on your first one better - but only b/c it's more my taste. Both came out so nice!

Beautiful boxes! May I ask where you buy your freezer paper? I'ved looked in Albertsons, Winco, Safeway...and haven't had any luck :(

hi there janel-
I have found it at winco, and if you don't have one near you I know you can buy it online, but it is getting harder to find it at grocery stores. . I know big chains can order it for you-have you tried that?

where do yoy purchase supplies?

Not that you are God or anything, though you are a domestic goddess, uhm, have you ever tackled making child sized T.P.'s ?? I have an abundance of sheets that could be put to creative use.

LOVE these bags/boxes. They are so adorable. I especially love the jewels. I did the cigar box purse thing for a while, and the jewels were the best part. That, and the beaded handles!

i love your red design! so cool!

big enid fan - these look so great!!
