book report.
It's so cool to see Bend-the-Rules Sewing have a life of its own over on flickr. Everyday projects made from the book are being uploaded to the group and I just can't believe my eyes! What makes me the happiest is that so many different projects are being made, not just the same one or two. Makes me so proud, man! Check out this fetching placemat and napkin set made by Meg. (That plate!) She wrote a really sweet review of the book on her blog, too. Thanks, Meg!
And look at her take on the Cat Tuffet in a Basket--total genius. A metal tub!
And more about the book. . .the Simple Tote made it into the newest issue of Bust. The article features fashions all made from patterns in new craft books. It's several pages and worth a check out for sure. And, I just got word that Bend-the-Rules Sewing is on it's second printing now. Whoo-hoo! Thanks you guys!!
I am almost done with the re-issue of the bonnet pattern (the sold out patterned from Mailorder) so I will have that available again in a few weeks. Thanks for your patience on that one. I might sell it as a pre-order because I have no clue as to how many to print. Would you all be cool with a pre-order sale on it?

Congrats on the success of your book! I will pick up a copy soon...and perhaps move out of my inclination to only sew rectangles (curtains, pillow cases, napkins, etc.)

would love a pre-order on the bonnet pattern. my daughter just recently requested this very thing!
I am really enjoying your book~have made several wallets, napkins, placemats, the simple handbag, the quilt and I just finished making 8 of the foldover bags for my camp counselors who have been such a help all summer in Sewing class! A truly perfect gift for them!

A pre-order for the bonnet would be FANTASTIC. Try as I might I haven't been lucky enough to make it in on a Mailorder yet.
Your book makes me super happy. It got passed around the local Knit Night like it was on fire. Actually I think we ended up passing it around more than once!

I just got it out of the library the other day (I was sooo surprised that my library had it considering its such a new book--but I wasn't complaining! lol!) and have to tell you this is fast becoming my favorite sewing tome! :) I'm so eager to try some of the projects--especially the quilt. :) congrats on all the great press and projects that are springing from your book! ;)

I gave my daughter in law your book. She is very crafty but just taking up sewing and fabricky things. She and her late 20s friends love the book and have made several projects. (I made the corrections you've pointed out before I gave it to her.) Congratulations! You are just so creative.

I recently purchased 'Bend the Rules: Sewing' and really loved it. I handsew a lot and sewing always had a kind of mysticism to me but your book really made it approachable... now if I can only keep my Mum's fingers off of it then all will be well and soon I can post some of my projects on the FlickR group!
Posted by: Dyan | July 30, 2007 at 11:18 AM
It's no wonder the book is on the second printing! It's really fantastic...thanks for creating it! And for letting me in on the flickr group! Hmmmm....I didn't even know! I just posted to it myself! ^_^

I just received my copy of the book from amazon last night and promptly sat down and read through it -- loved it! So much more enjoyable to read than the couple of other "how to" sewing books I'd recently bought myself. I especially like the concept of bending the rules =).
I'm pretty new to sewing and just last week my mom gifted me a 1951 Singer she won off eBay that I'd been eyeing -- "Sally" (Sally Singer, that is) sews like a dream and I can't wait to use her to try some of the ideas in your book.
By the way, in my amazon order I also received "The Crafter's Companion", which I simply did not want to put down last night. Your essay was fabulous; the whole book is fabulous.
Loving your blog . . .

Thanks for the mention, Amy! I, too, would like to pre-order the bonnet pattern. You're the best!

I have your book (pre-ordered back in January) and I have made 4 of the simple totes so far. Sooo cute and I have gotten lots of compliments. Can't wait to try more of the projects, if I can stop making the simple tote, that is!

Count me in as another who'd pre-order the bonnet pattern in a flash - I have been looking longingly at the Flickr pictures for months now! And I also wanted to say that the book is fantastic.

Okay this is funny. Steve and I were just talking and he was trying to tell me that he read on your blog (hee!) that your book was in a second printing. And I was all, "um, what the heck are you talking about?". Anyway...a funny little entertaining domestic debate occurred and here I am to re read a few posts and find out that he totally knows more than I do (or gets more sleep and is therefore able to remember more). So WOOOOOOHOOO! Second printing!!!! Rock on, girl! That is SUCH fabulous news!!

Hey,that was cool that you ended up bust! too fun!
I can wait to make the pixie hat from you fab new book! I wonder if I can get my 9 year old to wear it? Ha~ I doubt it the selfconciousness is setting in! Good thing my girlfriends have lots of little 3 year olds girls. I have christmas all lined up.
The book is absolutly wonderful. It is on my night stand so I go to bed dreaming of sweet things!
I wish you happiness and lots of sleep!

Your book is fantastic... and making it in BUST is even better! My daughter will be thrilled to see it in there (it is the 17 year olds true love!) Thank you so much for putting all of your hard work into book form.
PS: My local library bought a copy after I recommended it which means even more people will fall in love with your work!
