love, theme-y style.

I just saw this wonderful tea set at Mahar Drygoods and squealed. It's so cute! And handmade! Ack. Need to justify this somehow. . .it fulfills all my fantasies of all of us playing in the forest, having a tea party under a mushroom, eating bark or whatever. . .
Like something out of this book, a family favorite, Children of the Forest, again--the mushroom hats. Can't get enough of these. I know you see them everywhere, the red and white mushrooms, but I will never tire of them.
I have my eye on these super sweet Shinzi Katoh glass storage containers over at the Spiralling Store.
And these mini magnets from superbuzzy .And they have the Shinzi Katoh fabric that match the glass containers above, too.

That tea set is freakin' adorable! Love love tea sets. My daughter has a pretty nice tea set collection; she's fourteen now, and my only girl, but never mind, I have plans for many a tea party with her two baby brothers--they'll love it, I'm sure. I can't really justify buying another, but you should definitely go for it.

Cute tea set. I have always wanted to make Children of the Forest Halloween costumes for my children. Sweet creamy white sweaters and stuffed red spotted mushroom caps? That would be so sweet.

All of a sudden I feel the need to embroider mushrooms!
Posted by: Amy | August 08, 2007 at 06:55 PM
Oh my goodness the tea set really is something to behold ... I very nearly caved and treated myself.
Mmmmm, a nice juicy piece of bark .... errr, I think I'll have a slice of whatever with mine
The Shinzi glass containers are fab ... go on, give in to temptation you know you want too *wink*
Thanks for the pimp Amy and such a sweet post, I'm off to grab me some sweet dreams.

That tea set is so cute! But, wow, I really would have to find some serious justification for buying a $140 tea set. I do so love Mahar Drygoods, though. Wonderful wonderful stuff.

Yes. You must buy the glass Shinzi Katoh glass containers. They're perfect. And they remind me of those old glasses they gave out I think with Happy Meals? I hope I didn't just ruin these for you with my mention of McDonalds - but I meant it in the best way possible :)

that tea set is too cute. i love all of the mushroom stuff out there. but i know everyone else does, too. so i tend to shy away from it. it's like that with all things. for example the whole japanese craze. and before you know it, i don't get the things i love simply because other people that i don't know and will probably never meet have the same taste i do. on paper it seems a lot sillier. i think i just saved myself a fortune in therapy!

Do you have the richard scary book about the bunny? don't remember the name at the moment (and the book is in my sleeping son's room) but it talks about the seasons and there is a great illustration of the bunny under a big red mushroom w/ white polka dots...he's hiding from the rain I think. So good.

How cute!!! I just came in from walking my dogs and I passed the biggest mushroom that I've ever seen. I'm thinking of going back to get a picture so my fam doesn't think I'm telling fish stories!

I can't believe you gave me that store link. I'm dying over here and totally going to blow my grocery budget buying up all their items.

just wanted to tell you that i just purchased your book and read parts of it on the train this morning (yes, i read it like a novel), and i think it's awesome. i never learned how to sew properly (other than what i learned in 7th grade home ec) and my efforts have been half-assed at best. but you've provided me with just enough information to give me that push to give it a go again.
really nicely done!

I love all things mushroomy too! They remind me of playing Tiddly Winks with a set from Hearthsong that looked like a wooden mushroom. Great thematic post!

Ooooh, get the magnets. Actually I want the magnets but just moved to a place with one of those hidden/ covered refrigerators so nothing 'sticks' to it. I'll never know what's going on now.
Where the heck am I supposed to organize all of my kids school stuff?
I really need a magnet board.
And cute magnets to stick on it.

Inspired by your love for the magazine, I was just re-reading my only :( issue of MS Kids that i own, it was October 2005. I'm sure you saw the forest Halloween costumes including the little mushroom hat but in case not, it fits well with your theme for today.
I love the tea set!!! Mahar Dry Goods has the coolest stuff.

i got some of those mushroom glass containers a bit back and i love 'em. though some were smaller than i imagined. (though we all know my tendency to shrink + enlarge items) and i knew that if i sent that link with that poster you'd get that tea set! did you get it yet?? i'm trying to justify in some no way kinda way. like starting a tea service at 4pm for the other tenants. cause then i could use that fabric i had to get a bit back to make some placemats. way over board. thanks for the post.

What IS it about the mushroom?! Was it the motorcycke shop across the street from my library, growing up, with the big mushroom art on the windows? Because my parents' upright catholics that they are, *NEVER* displayed (gasp) the MUSHROOM....but oooh....sooo intriiiiguing!
WE have the Children of the Forest. Alas, my kids don't really get into the book like I do. They're all, "ok,..." (where are the robots? technology? you lost me in your earthiness" ). So I wind up flipping the pages, smiling all my lonesome.

why do you find the cutest stuff ever! I am always going on a wonderful spin through cyberspace after visiting your site! Thanks for doing the searching.

The mushroom tea set is so cute! I've been collecting midori magnets - they come in sushi, household appliances, cakes & pies and animals and are SUPER strong!
btw Amy, I just got your new book and it's really inspiring. I'm planning to make the elf hat, for a start. Congrats on your achievement!

aaack. too cute. No excuses needed here for glass storage! I thought of you yesterday, the front page of our newspaper was dedicated to the dangers of plastic for food storage! excellent.

You could use them to serve the awesome toadstool cupcakes from that fairy party they had in Martha Stewart Kids (#18, summer '05). I am dying to have that party--can't wait until my little girl is a little older!!!

Oh this reminds me of a book my dad bought us when we were visiting his family in Hungary when I was a girl. It was loaded with hedgehogs and red and white toadstools.
thanks for the flashback!

Ahhhh, I've been lusting after that superbuzzy fabric 4-ever but can't part with $45 for it! So cute, love the shroom theme.

Was in Carlton, OR, this weekend. The quilt shop in town had the most adorable fabric...One bolt featured tiny gnomes wheeling barrows filled with, yup, red-capped mushrooms. The companion fabric had just the mushrooms. They'd make sweet little baby or toddler tops, maybe with a cute plaid for blumers. Can't remember the name of the store, but Carlton is the size of a postage stamp. Maybe it was called the Quilt Nest?

The Shinzi fabric is worth it, believe me. :)
