Apple raspberry pie, all ready to be baked Thursday morning. I didn't know you could freeze fruite pies, unbaked, until last summer. . .but you can. This will make Thursday so much easier. Now I just have to wait and make my final decisions on the side dishes (Grammie is doing everything else.)
Mmm ... this looks delicious, do you have a recipe? Also, thanks for sharing about freezing unbaked pies. A tip that will definitely make Thanksgiving a little less stressful, do you just simply place in a pie container to freeze?

This reminds me that I need to get out the mailorder apple crisp recipe.
My son will be happy to use his apple peeler contraption. He asked for it last year for Christmas.

I just added about 1 cup of raspberries (frozen) to my favorite apple pie-
and yes, in a pie container to freeze. . .

Lovely pie. I'm all about the freezing ahead of time this year. Today is the day for getting ready!
Sigh, I've always wanted an apple peeler corer slicer.

The Pie looks delicious! Makes me want to celebrate Thanks Giving too :-)

How do you wrap the pie for freezing??? Oh, do tell...
I love that your peeler, corer suctions to your counter. Ours, mounts on the end--and was designed before thick granite counters---so I have only one (awkward) place to mount it.

Apples + *raspberries*?! Oh, where have you been? Yum. Yum, yum, yum. Why couldn't I think of that? Thanks!

I used your pie crust recipe the other day. (you know, from your "most often used recipes print-out" that you shared with us a while back.) It was fabulous. I loved that it made a nice big crust. Plenty of dough for folding and crimping. Thanks! Freezing a pie? Who knew? Do you have to thaw it before baking- or does it go into the oven frozen?

I am so glad you liked the pie crust recipe! I hate not having enough-so it's a generous amount-
for the pie--I freeze it uncovered until it sets, and then wrap in in plastic (after it's hard so it's won't get all dinged up) and then tinfoil. I have never frozen a pie for more than a few days, but I know so people freeze pies for a month or so. . .
and you bake the pie straight from the freezer-
425º 20 min and then 350º 30 min

Awesome tip Amy! I think you've mentioned this before, or I've heard it before, but I'm cooking again this year and can use all the tips I can get.

I love freezing fruit pies then later just popping them into the oven.
I've had pies in the deep freeze for up to 6 mos. with no problem. If you put it in the refrig/freezer then 3 mos. tops for freshness. Use plastic bags that are for freezer use to help stop the freezer burn, but i've never had a problem if I put them in the "big" freezer. I have a 22 cu.ft. freezer that I use for stocking up on things from the garden and meats. I LOVE it!

Great tip, thanks! I didn't know either that you could freeze unbaked pies. Makes sense though!

Must be an apple day! I just made a huge batch of applesauce this morning to freeze! There is nothing like "fresh made" applesauce and toast in January!

I love that apple corer/slicer, what brand is it and can you adjust for the thickness of the slices?
Posted by: mollyejo | November 18, 2007 at 09:46 AM
My son loves using the apple peeler/corer/slicer! I think we'll be making something with apples today too.

Mmmnn...that pie looks delicious, thanks for the idea of the raspberries with the apple. Hmmn...might end up on our Thanksgiving table as well!

Love your new banner! I'm not always the most observant so I'm not sure if its been there before but I like it. We usually do a carmel apple pie but this year may have to try the apple rasberry. Sounds yummy.

Oh wow, that's great! I didn't know unbaked fruit pies could be frozen either. Usually I don't bake pies when company is coming because I have too many other things to prepare, but this is the perfect solution!! I'm off the hook this year, though, because my in-laws are bringing dessert--apple pie, and a pumpkin cheesecake with gingersnap crust. Mmmmm!

My usual combo for Thanksgiving is apple/cranberry - tasty! But I like your idea of mixing it with raspberries which is my favorite berry - I might get brave enough to make this for our family reunion dinner this Thurs.

I am going to make a new apple pie recipe this year that involves cooking the apples ahead of time - do you know if the freezing technique still works with that kind of pie?
I wish I had known this last week! Thanks for the great tip.

So I'm all ready to make pies for Thanksgiving too, apple and pumpkin. The catch is I need to bring them on a plane. I'm reading conflicting reports everywhere that you can bring them on/ can't bring them on. Anyone have first hand experience? TSA.gov says "Note: You can bring pies and cakes through the security checkpoint, but be advised that they might be subject to additional screening." Do I trust that? They aren't specific with the kinds of pies.

What a useful tidbit of information! I think I will make a lot more pies now that I know that... So much easier to squeeze it in where there's time.
Love your apple peeler!
