chocolates and stuff
Here's a small cake. It's orange chocolate. I made 6 of these all baked in white, red, and pink heart shaped ramekins—super cheap from Micheal's. Mariko and I added an easy frosting (about 4 oz melted chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons sour cream) and it was amazing. The cake recipe is from One-Pot Chocolate Desserts, a book I have had for 10 years. I love it. It's very bare bones and basic, great for the girls because they love to hand mix everything.
I didn't get around to buying heart molds. Pete suggested the lollipop molds. . .brilliant! This is a good quality milk chocolate chopped from a huge hunk, melted, and supposedly tempered in the microwave, but I don't think it worked. These are still tasty as all get out, anyway. They get melty fast which makes the sticks even more handy. I am so into melting chocolate into shapes now instead of buying over-priced junk for the holidays. I need to get going on easter. I want to try a bunny, 3-D style.
We had a valentine craft get-together last week with some fun friends. Paul made some pretty cool valentines, I wasn't prepared for such intense parental participation with the craft projects, I'm glad I had enough supplies to go around. Melissa was pretty deft with the heart shaped paper punch.

Oh, this little cake looks great, I guess I'm going to Micheal's tomorrow (I leave everything for the last minute, you know :P)).
Happy coming V-Day!

If you're going to strat working on chocolate and Easter maybe you can try those chocolate filled reall egg shells that Martha Stewart does? I think they look wonderful but I'm terrified - I want someone more skilled to give it a go first and have documentation that it might be possible.
Oh - and speaking of chocolate these aren't in molds and are more for adults...but mmm mmm mmm...: http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/12/robert-linxes-chocolate-truffles/

in Brazil we usually give kids these huge (I mean huge) Chocolate Easter Eggs filled with bomboms, and shaped chocolate candy. Nestle makes really good ones, but the best, and the ones my mama always gave me, were the homemade kind, these were amazing!!!! Thera are so many stores in Brazil dedicated to chocolate molds...anything you ever imagined, there is mold for it. Your heart shaped orange chocolate looks sooo yummy!!

Thanks for the tip on cheap heart-shaped ramekins! I have been wanting some but can't justify the money, maybe Michaels will even have them on clearance now that it's past the big day!

Sure beats eating crappy mass-produced stuff.

Have you been to the "Decorette Shop" in Tigard? It is on 99W just off 217 by the JoAnns there. A whole shop dedicated to cake and candy making... could be trouble! I have gotten lollipop molds and flavorings there.

I am delurking to admit that in the face of all the yummy cuteness my only thought was.." @%$#! I wish I had bought that dress when I first saw it!".
I am hoping they bring it out again next fall.

These are too cute! You inspired me to buy some of my very own love-heart shaped ramekins! Hopefully I'll make something lovely in them soon and post it up on my blog. By the way, I bought your book recently! I can't wait to receive it! Check out my blog if you find the time. x
