chocolates and stuff

Here's a small cake. It's orange chocolate. I made 6 of these all baked in white, red, and pink heart shaped ramekins—super cheap from Micheal's. Mariko and I added an easy frosting (about 4 oz melted chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons sour cream) and it was amazing. The cake recipe is from One-Pot Chocolate Desserts, a book I have had for 10 years. I love it. It's very bare bones and basic, great for the girls because they love to hand mix everything.

I didn't get around to buying heart molds. Pete suggested the lollipop molds. . .brilliant! This is a good quality milk chocolate chopped from a huge hunk, melted, and supposedly tempered in the microwave, but I don't think it worked. These are still tasty as all get out, anyway. They get melty fast which makes the sticks even more handy. I am so into melting chocolate into shapes now instead of buying over-priced junk for the holidays. I need to get going on easter. I want to try a bunny, 3-D style.

We had a valentine craft get-together last week with some fun friends. Paul made some pretty cool valentines, I wasn't prepared for such intense parental participation with the craft projects, I'm glad I had enough supplies to go around. Melissa was pretty deft with the heart shaped paper punch.

Oh, this little cake looks great, I guess I'm going to Micheal's tomorrow (I leave everything for the last minute, you know :P)).
Happy coming V-Day!

Amy, you got me started on a chocolate melting/molding kick. So fun!

well somebody had to fill the girls' boxes...

i'm getting that book out of the library.

i saw those ramekins and you and mariko popped in my head so i had to snatch some up. might need to get that book, too since they are still sitting empty. and delia is sporting one super cute dress.

That cake looks fantastic and I'm sure tastes amazing! I saw those, and now am kicking myself for not picking it up!

Great cards too :)

Sending lots of LOVE this week :)

I'm curious who your cakes are for. I thought I was doing good to make Valentine cards. CAKES! Now's there's a Valentine!

Girl - you really know how to package things! I took one look at that first picture and though it looked like the best gift anyone could get!

Um, is it really bad that I sort of glossed over all the chocolate and fell in love with that beautiful blue dress your daughter is wearing? Where is it from?

oh amy, is there anything you don't know how to make!!? sorry i keep saying "you're so talented"!! =P

Those little chocolate cakes look so sweet!

Those little heart shaped cakes are so adorable! The frosting...mmmmmm sounds good too.

lovely choco lollies!

my mom and my brothers and i would make easter chocolates - egg shapes, bunnies - we even have sesame street and rainbow brite molds! we used to put a small bit of peanut butter in the egg shapes. yummy!!

orange and chocolate. i need more info.

Amy, Yummy & fun! I love the little cakes. I may have to make a few to share myself. :o)

And your V Day decorating party looked like a blast. You are a very talented lady! Thanks for always sharing your ideas.

And P.S. I finally got your book & YAY! I've made 2 totes and am on a roll. There are AMAZING projects in there! Thanks for that too.

Mmm. Orange and chocolate. My mom used to make me orange/chocolate chip muffins every year for my birthday. This cake looks divine.

Oh my those little cakes look yummy! Orange and chocolate are the perfect mix!
♥Lisa

The cake & lollies looks yummy. The Valentine's party looks like it was so much fun.

Where did you find the fabric for your table cloth? I need a 'plastic' cover but want a little style to it.

great cake idea!! looks yummy, yummy.

that pleated blue dress looks yummy too - did you make it? is there a pattern?

I love the cake and the chocolate lollypop. YUM!

If you're going to strat working on chocolate and Easter maybe you can try those chocolate filled reall egg shells that Martha Stewart does? I think they look wonderful but I'm terrified - I want someone more skilled to give it a go first and have documentation that it might be possible.

Oh - and speaking of chocolate these aren't in molds and are more for adults...but mmm mmm mmm...: http://smittenkitchen.com/2007/12/robert-linxes-chocolate-truffles/

thanks y'all!
and miss delia's dress is from mini boden. I am kicking myself for only buying one-it's from last fall-they sold out so fast!

and the tablecloth is oilcloth from Bolt here in portland. . .

i love that idea with the ramekins.

I would love to have those ramekins on hand when the mood strikes to share a little *love* dessert. Everything looks so yummy!

Cute cake...I like the little cakes in a cup! Happy Valentine's Day.

in Brazil we usually give kids these huge (I mean huge) Chocolate Easter Eggs filled with bomboms, and shaped chocolate candy. Nestle makes really good ones, but the best, and the ones my mama always gave me, were the homemade kind, these were amazing!!!! Thera are so many stores in Brazil dedicated to chocolate molds...anything you ever imagined, there is mold for it. Your heart shaped orange chocolate looks sooo yummy!!

i have no idea why it posted twice...well i guess twice the overseas knowledge!

Oh that chocolate lolly is making me drool. Love it!

The valentine craft get-together is a great idea.

Thanks for the tip on cheap heart-shaped ramekins! I have been wanting some but can't justify the money, maybe Michaels will even have them on clearance now that it's past the big day!

Sure beats eating crappy mass-produced stuff.

Have you been to the "Decorette Shop" in Tigard? It is on 99W just off 217 by the JoAnns there. A whole shop dedicated to cake and candy making... could be trouble! I have gotten lollipop molds and flavorings there.

I am delurking to admit that in the face of all the yummy cuteness my only thought was.." @%$#! I wish I had bought that dress when I first saw it!".
I am hoping they bring it out again next fall.

love your blog by the way...
Corina bit of Aussie in NJ (very homesick for some sun)

These are too cute! You inspired me to buy some of my very own love-heart shaped ramekins! Hopefully I'll make something lovely in them soon and post it up on my blog. By the way, I bought your book recently! I can't wait to receive it! Check out my blog if you find the time. x

I'm an idiot. This is my URL not the other one I just posted with. My bad.
