bias tape tutorial (all by machine)

Here it is! There are many ways to sew bias tape on and here's a method I don't describe in my book. It's all stitched by machine and is how I trimmed hem and pockets on this skirt. Enjoy, and hooray for totally unprofessional video making!

**if this video is unavailable, check back in a few hours, okay? I don't know what is up with You Tube, it was working fine before. . .I will keep checking it. You can also try this link here.

Thanks for posting this helpful and hilarious video! I taught myself how to sew, so it's neat to see how I'm *supposed* to be doing stuff!

That was fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing this great technique. Please do more of these!!!

hah! and it really, really works!

This is the most awesome and hilarious tutorial. The popsicle stick narrator thing was so perfect. Thanks for sharing!!

Awesome !!! love the narration - just love it !

Amy, this is awesome!! [high five!]

Thanksyou - great tutorial!

Thank you! I'm going to make a summer dress soon, and I want to trim the hem with bias tape... now I can! Thanks again. :)

Thank you for this! Encore!

Hilarious and yet totally useful! I would love to see a whole series of these...

Well, your tutorial was so much fun, I want to go finish an edge with bias tape right now! Great job. (The popsicle stick narrator was a hoot!)

Ok, so I have known how to do this for years, but I still watched because I knew you would make it hilarious! Thanks for the laugh! And love your stick Amy. She is a great actress. A very clean non-swearing actress. I think she should be a blog regular!

Why is this no longer available to see? I was so looking forward to seeing it.

i LOVE it. hilarious and VERY informational! thanks. :)

Heeheehee, that tutorial is great, very informative.

I HATE pinning, if I could sew everything without pinning I would be one happy camper. Thanks for showing me how to sew on bias tape!

It says the video is no longer available!!

Yep. I'm getting the "no longer available" message too.

that was wonderful! too cute!

Oh no! I am getting that it is unavailable too. The tragedy! (I guess it's not THAT tragic, it's just that I had been hoping for an easy way to do that for a while. ;) )

hmm-not sure what is up with you tube, it was working fine before, I will check it out. . .hang tight!

no longer available.
i'm so sad :(

Oh no! Not available and I really would love to learn an easier way!!! I'm going to keep checking back in hopes that it was just a problem with the nut behind this comp!

Hmm same here. I've never uploaded to youtube. Does it expire?

Great! I loved the skirt, but was intimidated by the bias trim.

I love your choice of fabric, by the way!

so, there is too much traffic on the video right now-check back later and it should work. . .

dude. we're all chompin at the bit for that video and it's all flooded out! ;) I will wait. Patiently.

Happy Easter, girl. And to all your peeps too. xoxo.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I've always wondered why one side was different than the others. However, I would LOVE for you to show me a curve or a mitered corner. Those kick my butt everytime.

BTW, loved the video and the stick Amy.

too funny, amy!!

Thanks for posting that--I'm a cursing-under-my-breath sewer, so this was a nice little tidbit--I always thought the bias tape was just annoyingly uneven, LOL!

That is sooo great! Thank you. I love the real time aspect.

Hilarious! And educational to boot. Who knew the two could go together so well?

cindy-
you can do curves the exact same way, because it on the bias, it will curve, I promise!

and posy gets cozy has a great tutorial for mitered corners:

thank you, thank you!!! since i don't have a serger, i plan on sewing on a lot of bias tape edges! :)

that was brilliant. brilliant! i am completely in awe that you put that together with three children hanging around somewhere. i now worship you as an even more accomplished accomplisher.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Seriously....THANK YOU!!!

I love it! I smiled through the whole thing! You are a wonderful teacher. I love your book and I love your blog.
No longer lurking,
Linda

OH MY GOD IT'S ANGRY CHICKEN: THE MOVIE.

haaa...you are AWESOME and that was hilarious. thanks for the lesson.

That just about made my week. Heck let's just say you made my month. I had an ear to ear smile through the whole clip. Ha Ha Ha!
Must make popsicle stick picture heads now.

entertaining yet informative, 2 thumbs up!

Hee hee, that was cute and funny! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

thank you for this. now i am gonna try this with a lot more confidence!

(and this tutorial is so adorable. you are such a delight.)

Oh so hilarious!! And yet so insightful! Great tutorial...what a great Easter present you gave us all!

You had me with, "I don't pin, because I don't want to." OH MY. This is freaking brilliant. I especially love how you "demo" the sewing part.

This is brilliant. I'm on hiatus this week, but will be linking this on Monday. Blessings.

I think this is my favorite tutorial of all time..... and I already knew how to do this!! I love entertaining tutorials, and this is the best I have seen! :)

Thank you for that. I love the part where you "step away" and you just hear the sewing machine going. :)

Finally, someone explains why the bias tape has wide and narrow sides! I have been sewing for over 20 years, and never knew that. Loved it, and just made my sewing life that much easier. Thankyou!

Thank you Amy, tutorial on video rocks! of course we want more of that! happy Easter to you x

I love it! Can we have more tutorial videos, please? Could you show us how to put in a zip without crying?

So funny! I love it. This is the best way to do bias tape. The only thing I do different is to actually "stitch in the ditch"...stitch at the point where the two fabrics meet and that way you don't see any stitching on the front side.

Your tutorial is sooo great, I love your humour!
