A bit spring-y perhaps, but I was itching to sew some kid clothes.
The top is made from a pattern from this Girly Style Book, which is a Japanese sewing book I've had for a couple years now. (it's sold out, but you can see the cover, and the ISBN is ISBN978-4-579-11181-7. There's a bit about buying Japanese craft books in my FAQ, which I'm not sure is terribly helpful, sorry.)
**update! Sis Boom has a very similar pattern for sale right here and it's a PDF download—how convenient!
I changed it a little, using the rolled hem on the serger to finish the ruffle edge and stitched narrow elastic to the inside for the gathering instead of making a casing.
The skirt isn't from a pattern, it's just a wide rectangle gathered to fit her waist. She has already worn this outfit a lot—with a long sleeve shirt and leggings under. It's all very comfy-cute.
In other short people news, the newest issue of Small Magazine has been out for a bit now (so very wonderful, as usual) and I sure like a lot of what I am seeing in the new Olive Juice catalog, especially this dress. The over-sized gingham is also making me nutty. Do I need this for the girls, or for me? Which leads me to the whole Mommy/Daughters matching outfit issue—which so far I have avoided. Please help me so I can help myself.
