Over the holidays I went out by myself and perused some yarn shops, without my children, and found myself wandering over to Lovejoy Bakers. I went there when they first opened, and then about a year later, but it's not really in a part of town I am in a whole lot, so I kind of forget about it. And it's not a super easy place to sit with more than 2 people, and I usually have more than 2 people with me. But, I was alone, and could wait in line and perch on a tiny stool and be just fine, so I did.
I got the Russian Teacake cookie, which is my all time favorite cookie. I don't like to actually make them because I eat them all, so it's thrilling when I find a bakery that has them so I can just eat one and move on with my life. I'm not sure if they have them all year around, but they did in December. The real surprise on this visit was the very simple and ridiculous good egg, butter, and olive tapenade sandwich they serve on their slightly toasted ciabata roll. I ordered it randomly, it just sort of leapt out at me. The menu is kind of insane over there, so good it's hard to even know where to start. I should go back and make myself order a different item each time.
So, I ate this amazing sandwich and eavesdropped on all the great conversations and then forgot about it until this morning when I had a ciabatta roll looking at me on the counter and remembered that I had olive tampenade spread from trader joes in the refrigerator. I toasted up the roll, spread it with butter, added one scrambled egg, about a tablespoon of tapenade, a good amount of pepper and it was perfect breakfast.
I just wanted to share this becasue it was so easy and so good. Tapenade is one of those things I think you either love or not, it's hard to be neutral about it. I love it.
