This is the first cake I made from Vintage Cakes. I didn't sample this one at the tasting/book signing, but was so intrigued by the description in the book I made it first thing. All the recipes in this book are historical with a clever and delicious spin. This is a pretty simple oatmeal cake, with the tasty addition of coconut milk. The shredded coconut frosting is poured on top after it's baked and then it's broiled. Thrilling! It was the most exciting thing I had done that week. It was so good (understatement) and even better the next day for breakfast. A winner for sure.
- My Sadie turned 10 yesterday! Unreal. She and my brother share a birthday. He is such a good sport, always coming to a party with a gaggle of girls on his special day, too. He's the master of gift giving—the glow-in-the-dark silly string and Magic 8 Ball were the hit of the Old-timey Prairie themed party.
- I'm excited to try the Juniper pants and Anise Jacket by Colette Patterns. The pants are so elegant and the jacket is classic. I'm tempted to lengthen the jacket for myself, and see if I can increase the rise on the pants making them a little higher waisted. I have one more Halloween costume to finish first. I am up to my eyes in crushed stretch velvet. 3 words that should probably never be used all together
