It rained pretty much all weekend, but it was still warm, so we tried to get some yard work done. And we did, but there were some moments of tension. It wasn't looking productive until I remembered the scavenger hunt idea I had pinned to a board of mine. I forget to look at my own boards on pinterest (why!?) I should look at them first thing, because not surprisingly, I love all the things I pin. Here's the direct link to this nature scavenger hunt idea. I wrote our list by hand in about 3 seconds, handed it to the nearest child, and they were off—all making piles of items. I wrote down about 7 things I think:
- 3 types of leaves
- something red
- a treasure
- something slimy
- something rough
- 4 pinecones
- 4 rocks
- I saw The Great Gatsby and was so happy I had re-read it so recently. I liked the movie, it was very entertaining which is always my biggest hope. There were some troubling omissions in the ending, and it was a bit, crazy, but overall I really had a good time watching it and it made me appreciate the book even more. I am now reading The Best of Youth, by Michael Dahlie, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I am only half way through and it's stressing me out in a tragic/comedy of errors kind of way. Cringe-y reading. And there are some parallel Gatsby themes (very rich white boys under 30 in NYC) which is fun.
- I had a great birthday (41) over the weekend, ending in a fabulous dinner at st. jack.
- We all watched the wonderful Nova program, Hunting the Elements, and the girls are dying to watch it again. The periodic table rocks. And I can't believe all the free resources out there, this amazing 2 hour show you can stream for free. So cool.
