It's been a crazy 2 weeks around here. The ballet shows just ended and now we are on to the rest of the holiday season, which should be pretty mellow. My two eldest dancers were in this show and they were both cast as matryoshka dolls. Coincidentally, we have been reading my youngest the Rebecca AG doll books, and noticed Rebecca's doll is a matryoshka. So, we thought it would be fun to get some unpainted dolls and decorate some. They turned out great. These are my 9-year-old's, she painted everything but the face. I helped with that under her direction. The other sets are being painted now-
I painted two sets of these dolls years ago, before Lydia was born .They were red and white. The girls were so tiny then, too little to be crafty yet. It's so amazing to see them paint their own now. I loved my sets of these dolls when I was little. I don't have them anymore, which makes me sad. I remember them so well.
Unrelated: I listened to Kristen Wiig being interviewed by Marc Maron on WTF. Marc Maron, as a host, can be tiring for me. I have to be in the right mood to deal with him. Pete usually listens WTF episodes and then tells me about them, which great, but I'm so glad I heard this one myself. She was so mellow and normal and t was wonderful to hear her path. It was not exciting at all, just a lot of hard work and a love of improv. I just spent 30 minutes writing and re-writing a bunch of words about process, paths, late-blooming interests, and pressure on 20-year-olds to figure it all out lest come across like flakey losers, but I couldn't get it together. I need my matcha.
