some apron type stuff-

Hello! Hello! I have some apron news to announce in webville.

Shawnee writes:
I've just started a new round of my apron swap - Flirty Apron Swap - Celebrating Independence - and have updated the blog with the newest details.  Sign up are May 5 to May 15; there's a contest going right now and everyone who links/blogs about the swap will be entered to possibly win this apron.

Sounds pretty cool! Also Katherine has a really cool thing happening in June, and check out her sites for sure, she is an amazing artist!

Katherine writes:
I am having an open farm day here at Apifera Farm on June 28th, and thought your sewer/apron lover readers might help, as I am seeking apron donations to fill a clothesline, with sale proceeds of aprons going into our Donkey Dream efforts. The goal of the event is to bring awareness to  Donkey Dreams - my efforts to bring children and adults in need of cheer and healing to our farm to sit and commune with donkeys, and enjoy home made pie. My goal is to build relationships with hospice workers, hospiatals and other animal therapists that can bring their people in need to Apifera Farm for one on one visits with Pino. And of course, I do all the pie baking, in an apron! Those who donate an apron [either sewers or those who buy an apron and donate it] will receive a special gift from Pino himself. Details are here found here. And you can read about the actual event here. Donkey Dreams and Pino's Pies is a labor of love, funded by my art sales. It is not a 501c at this time. I appreciate any efforts you might do in helping make Pino Pie Day a success!

I have to update the apron sellers shop list and I will do that real soon, I know there are some new cool ones out there that need to be added—thanks for e-mailing me you guys, and thank you for your patience.

vintage apron contest-

Clothespin_apron

Check this out! I just got this e-mail:

Hi, Amy - I wanted to pass along that I'm doing an apron giveaway on my blog this week - oodlesandoodles.typepad.com . I ended up with 11 identical ready-to-embroider vintage clothespin aprons (woo-hoo!) and clearly don't need to keep all 11 of them. Just wanted to share the wealth!

These are so cool, head on over to try and win one. Thanks Barbara!

apron news. . .

EllynAnn Geisel has a new little book out— Apronisms, Pocket Wisdom for Everday. It's very small and really sweet. Here's a little description from the publisher:

In Apronisms, she shares "thoughts, observations, advice, and tips I've gathered over the years and put them all in one place, like one big apron pocket. From the specific to the impressionistic, the ideas are now collected here for safekeeping in your own heart."

And did you all see this? I am a bit late in posting about it-

Apronflyer_copy_2

Stampinton has a call for artwork in the form of a homemade apron. You can read about this and download the PDF over here at Bari j's fine blog. The due date is September 15th, 2008, so you have some time.

apron pattern found. . .

Mystery Solved!
I heard back from Marsha on the apron pattern she was looking for. She writes:

The posts were very helpful.  I did some research, and indeed, my mother's apron (the brown/yellow apron) has the same shape as this "mama-san" apron, and has one pocket, just like my mother's.  Her apron sleeve differs from this pattern in that it does not taper to a narrow end. And, her apron has the square cut neck, and a rounded bottom, same as this pattern. (This pattern is no longer available).

Her apron has a label (I found it when I ironed it for the photos) stating it was "made in Japan" by an American company, "Design House."

I am not good at crafts and sewing, but at some time I will try to reproduce it. I ordered the suggested book by Tracy Doyle from the library, and hopefully, I will be able to make a pattern.

Please offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to the ladies who posted comments.  They were very helpful.

And here's the pattern she found that is so similar to what she was searching for. . .I really like it!

some apron business-

A few apron announcements:

Shawnee is hosting a Flirty Apron Swap, so head on over and check it out!

And I got this e-mail a bit back from Marsha. . .does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks! She writes:

I have been looking for a long time for a place to purchase, or to find a pattern, for a particular type of apron.  Surprisingly, I have not found such an apron and was hoping you would help.

The apron is what I would call a smock-type apron:  It has a round neckline; it is a rounded shape overall; it has short sleeves (approx 9 inches from the shoulder), and approx. 27 inches long.  You put on the apron by inserting your arms through the sleeves, and then tying it in 2 places:  at the neck, and at the waist (4 fabric ties).  My apron has 2 pockets; my mother's had one pocket. No buttons, snaps, velcro, etc.

My apron was made by "apron tree of California"; the flip side of the label says "this is my hang-up"  "trademark".  My mother's apron does not have a label.

they are up!

mary

Wow, thanks you guys! What a great turnout—I think this might be the largest gallery yet! These Polka Dotted Lovelies look. . .lovely! I mean really, have you ever seen a sassier lookin' bunch of aprons? And can you believe the sheer genius of this dotted apron from Mary? Smokin' hot.

Please let me know if you need me to add blog links or what-have-you to any of your photos. There were so many aprons this time, things got a bit nutty around here, so if you don't see yours, or if the link is missing or goofy—just e-mail me, okay? And  the flickr rules are, I can link to your blog, but not directly to your shop if the apron is for sale. Thanks!!

New Tie One On Theme-Havana Nights!

Reprodepot_1985_541692825

I feel the need for some sun right now and the Buena Vista Social Club soundtrack always keeps me warm, you know? So, to heat things up in this middle of winter, the new theme this time is Havana Nights. I strongly recommend listening to this amazing music while working on this project. And if for some reason you missed the film, please see it. It is so close to my heart, really an amazing piece of work.

This wonderful fabric here is from reprodepot, always a great place to blow your hard earned cash. Now, this one here is an oilcloth, so don't get too excited—not my first fabric of choice for making aprons, but you get the idea. Have fun and please interpret this theme however you want to. We are on a 2 month schedule now, so the jpegs should be e-mailed to me by the end of March. Thanks!!

The gallery for the polka-dotted aprons is almost done, so look for it soon. They are amazing, thank you!

new year clean up-

Happy new year apron lovers!!

okay, I am going to spiff up this site soon—change the banner, you know, make it new and pretty (well, not change it that much, of course) and I need to update the side bar lists.

So, if you are on the apron lovers list and the link no longer takes me to a blog, I will remove it. . . you understand. Of course you do! For the apron sellers lists (vintage apron sellers, and apron pattern sellers as well) if your shop link no longer works, I will take it off, and if you no longer have aprons in your shop (like if you sell other stuff too, and currently have no aprons) I will take the shop off. This is only because there are so many serious aprons makers out there and this list are getting sooooooo long, I want to weed out some of not current links. Not weed out shops, mind you, but I think you know what I mean.

Now, this is all meant to be friendly and nice and happy and all that, in no way should you feel bad about this. I can add your shop again at anytime and will be happy to in a heartbeat if you start selling aprons again or if your link has changed, but if you don't see your shop up there, that is why, please no worries! I just hate to think people are clicking on these links and finding some broken, or with no aprons. . .

I need to add some new shops too, I will do this very soon. And here's a great list of apron patterns available at reprodepot. And don't forget about the Tie One On polka-dot apron submission due the end of the month!!

thank you and you all rock. Here's to a great 2008!
