I have had this blank set of dolls for awhile (I got 3 sets total) and finally finished Sadie's last night. Delia's is next and will be red faces with white bodies. I am really diggin using red and white for the girls, it makes so many other decisions easier. These were super fun to paint (I did screw up a big doll real bad, so set # 3 will start with a smaller doll, thank god they are nesting!)
I had several sets of these when I was little and loved them so much. I am part Russian, so I am so excited to have the girls play with something heritage-y like this. I found out some interesting history about nesting dolls here. Awhile back the wurst gallery had a wonderful group show with a bunch of artists painting matryoshka which was such a wonderful idea and great inspiration. And the amazing matryoshka by maminka right are truly incedible.
