wow! thanks for all the dress love! I haven't sewn a dress in a long time. I am so happy the fit turned out. Pete has gotten really good at fitting me over the years, so I am very lucky. And I did hem it shorter, about 3", and it looks so much better. It has a bit more shape and looks less vintage, which is good I think. The shorter length gives it more swing and movement. And mariko, invisible zippers are the BEST but I didn't ever do one without cursing until I actually bought the special invisible zipper foot made for my machine. That was really the best thing I did because the weird plastic feet attachments are bunk and make me crazy.
The dress fabric is by robert kaufman and it's from the line called "kitchy kitchen" and I got it at fabric depot for all you local folks (I wonder if it is at bolt too? you might want to call gina and ask). . .it's a quilting cotton and it is lightweight and has a snap, if you know what I mean, so it's pretty crisp. You can get it here at eQuilter.
And I made pies this weekend. Thanks to my brother and mom I got a huge bag of fresh rhubarb from the farmer's market and made 2 pies one to eat now (see him above there) and one to freeze. So satisfying. This help rationalizes the purchase of a metal cake/pie carrier courtesy of e-bay (I need help) and this is my first rhubarb ever! not sure how I missed it, but I did and now I am a convert. What the heck is it? A weird sour vegetable stalk thing in a pie crust with a lot of sugar, that's what. Yummy in my tummy.
