We have been having a lot of fun doing projects out of Discovering Great Artists: Hands-On Art for Children in the Styles of the Great Masters. This one is inspired by the triptychs by Jan van Eyck. I love this book. We checked it out from the library and now must buy a copy. It's great as a starting point for working on a particular artist, but sometimes the girls just flip though the book and choose a project to do.
The last photo is one of van Eyck's triptychs I cut out and printed so they could see what the heck we were talking about. They decided on a pastoral theme for theirs. "Oink" was added. We used watercolor on white board (the same board I use for my sketchbook covers) and some masking tape. I really wish I would have made one myself. I still might. Whenever I get supplies ready for this type of thing I try to make one for myself, so I can work along with them, but I didn't this time and now I really wish I had. I got way into the van Gogh inspired haystack pastel pieces we did.
