I scored these vintage Gunne Sax dresses for a steal on ebay and they have been getting so much wear—an absolute hit in our house. I bought a vintage Gunne Sax blouse for myself as well and have been wearing it for plays and dress-up and also just to wear as normal clothes, which I feel like I can get away with about 80% of the time without looking totally bizarre. But, I might be delusional and it might look bizarre 100% of the time.
We have been reading and doing a lot of related activities from the American Girl Samantha books (they take place in 1904) and these dresses are perfect for that. I wasn't up for sewing 3 of them, hence the ebay search. I did find a vintage sewing pattern that I'm going to sew up for Sadie because I still can't find a vintage dress for her. I know there's a creepy V.C. Andrews vibe with these, maybe it's just my late 1970s association with prairie revival clothes, but in that way, I love them. And the girls really love them because they don't itch so they can wear them all day. Which they do.
And now I just found there is a group of Gunne Sax collectors on flickr. Of course there is!
Completely unrelated:
- The girls have been enjoying printing out, coloring in, and putting together Phee's fairy and mermaid puppets.
- I have my baking mojo back after throwing out 2 baking projects gone bad last week. And one of them was a 4 ingredient no-bake cookie! What the?
