These are our everyday brownies. I make a few kinds—some with melted chocolate and some, like this one, with cocoa powder. I have been making these since about 1982, when I was first learning to cook, which is when I think this family cookbook was created. They are perfect for kids to make by hand. I always melt the butter first. For this batch I didn't add the nuts. Sadly, the kids would really be upset, if I did. I did add instant espresso powder (1/2 tsp) which the kids like. I topped it with marshmallows when they were done, and popped them under the broiler for a second.
I only make a half-batch of this recipe. This is (9" x 9") and I only cook them for about 30 minutes, maybe even less. Oh, and I added chocolate chips. Just to be extra sick, I served them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. I never knew Cammy, but I love her brownies.
