I had a lot of time with my youngest child these last four weeks while the older girls were dancing all day. It was so nice and leisurely—we made lots of lemonade, sewed, went to the zoo, baked cookies, and had several tea parties. Last night, on the last day we had together alone, she asked to sew this adorable Miss Maggie Rabbit kit, by the amazing talented Alicia Paulson. She cut out all the pieces, sewed a whole lot of it herself, and learned all about Liberty cottons and why they are so treasured. Lydia also knits, so she is going to try her hand at the capelet. All the wooden doll furniture came out and a bed was set up and a miniature tea party was thrown in Maggie's honor. It was so fun working on this with her. The girls are getting older, 8, 10, and 12. This was kind of heart breaking. They are getting older fast.
Unrelated: I just finished the The Art Forger (thanks for the recommendation in the comments) and it was a perfect summer read. Very fun and fast. I am now reading The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches: A Flavia de Luce Novel
, and loving every page. I know there are several in this series and this was the one I found at the library. The sleuth is a 11-year-old chemist and reminds of my middle child a great deal. I was told about this series (written for adults, although the main character is a child) in the comments of a post last summer and and so happy to have checked it out. Thank you again, you good book recommending people!
