I have had this lovely lightweight throw for a few years and it was getting pretty damaged by cat claws and general life wear. It's lightweight cotton that's been hand quilted. I tucked it away and then realized I would actually enjoy it more if I could wear it. So I sewed it into a coat. I didn't use a pattern or tutorial but I did find this one later, which is pretty much how I sewed it. I added a pocket and also some hooks and eyes to close it at the top. I love it! my girls think it's a bit crazy, but you know.
It's been so busy around here, with both exciting things—recitals and performances and a birthday (I turned 45!) but also hard things, family members with health issues, the world in general and Portland dealing with tragic stuff. It feels so crazy right now. Everyday it seems like there is another horrible thing to wrap my brain around and also talk to the girls about.
We had a lovely blast of sun over the weekend. I made a crisp with rhubarb, we got some junk hauled out of the back yard, and I am almost done sewing for this week's dance performances at ACMA. I am half-way through reading The Handmaid's Tale, which I had never read. I wantedto read it before I watch it. While sewing, I've been listening to Call Your Girlfriend, which is really great. Two smart women talking about politics, music, books, and sometimes Keanu Reeves.
