the Circus Apron deadline extended!

Happy Summer to you apron makers!

It's finally hot here, only just now, so we are out playing in the sun with a vengeance!

So, in that vein, I am once again, extending the next apron theme, the Circus Apron, until September 5th.

Okay, have fun and you don't have to wait until them to e-mail me the images of your aprons. And thanks to those of you who already have—they look amazing!

the Alice gallery is up!

 

The Alice Gallery is up! And can believe this amazing photo and apron from Marca!? Outstanding!! This makes me so happy, At the little red boots are perfect!

So, please check out the amazing Alice in Wonderland inspired aprons. The winner of the book (randomly chose with a number generator thingy) is Jennifer.

New Apron Theme—The Circus!

 

The new theme is set for June/July—The Circus! I am in love with these fantastic vintage images from Agence Eureka. I also need to tell you that my husband, who often has ideas for apron themes, wanted this next one to be Raiders of the Lost Arc. Yup.

I still can't get this skirt out of my head and I realized it would also make a stellar apron and is very circus-y indeed.

Okay apron makers—These Circus themed aprons are due by August 1st. Have Fun!

And I am working on the Alice Apron gallery right now and I will need a few days to get it up—they look amazing! I will announce the book winner then as well. I also have some links to clean up and new apron seller shops to add, so if you have sent me an e-mail asking to be on the list, I haven't forgotten you! I will get up to speed here very soon.

Tie One On apron makers—here's the book giveaway for Alice Apron theme. It's a lovely brand new sewing book, Sewing Bits and Pieces: 35 Projects Using Fabric Scraps, by Sandi Henderson and it's the perfect book for using up your fabric scraps!

I was very happy to be included in this great LA Times story about aprons a week or so ago. Very cool! Thanks Rene! And I just saw today that this story got picked up by our local newspaper, The Oregonian.

Tie One On-Extention

Hi there apron makers!

I have extended the May 1st deadline for the Alice Aprons to June 1st, which gives you an additional month! I really want to make one of these and realized it wasn't going to happen this week. I also haven't gotten a chance to post which craft book one of you lucky participants will win—I need to get on that too. April has been going by too fast!

So, June 1st is when the Alice apron jpegs are due, thank you and have fun!

The Black & White gallery is up!

 

The Gallery is up and we had over 50 Black & White aprons this time—outstanding! Look at this lovely one from Mandy. So cool. They are so lovely and elegant, I can tell you all had fun with this theme. Thanks you guys. Please leave comments on the submissions and visit the blog links.

A few friendly reminders for any of you who are new to this challenge (No worries on any of this, I don't want you all to stress out, okay?):

• Please send the actual jpegs (no more than 2) in a e-mail, as opposed to a link. It has to be a jpeg, not a tiff. or a gif. Fickr can't upload anything but jpegs.
• If you don't see your apron, please e-mail me It's never an intentional omission. Sometimes with galleries this big—they just get lost in the shuffle, so don't hesitate to contact me. This goes for broken blog links as well. Just let me know.
• I can't link to shops selling aprons from Flickr with your submissions. This is a rule of Flickr's and if I do, my account can get shut down. So, if you send me a blog link, I can link to that, but not to a etsy shop or a website selling the aprons. Just so you know, if you don't see your shop listed, that's why.

New Apron Theme-Alice

 

I thought it would be fun to tackle an iconic apron for this next theme—Alice in Wonderland.

  

You can't really see the apron/pinafore here, but I love her facial expression in this tea party illustration so much—I had to show it anyway.

  

Here's another version. Very nice shoulder and pocket detail on this apron.

Of course you can interpret this apron how ever you wish, but I would like to suggest that the apron be:

1. white, or some approximation of white
2. in a pinafore/full apron style, if you are up for that

That means there is a bib and skirt attached. If you want to go with just a half apron, that's okay, but pinafores/full apron are very fun to do, so if you haven't done one, this would be a great time to try. Feel free to link to patterns you all might have to use in the comments. A vintage style pattern, either actual vintage or a reproduction, in white would look lovely. And please have fun with the details! I don't want you all to be bored by this. It has a ton of creative potential.

I have no idea if an apron makes an appearance on Alice in Tim Burton's upcoming film, but I will be seeing it probably the day it opens, nonetheless.

I have been having a lot of fun giving away books to you apron makers who join in on the Tie One On fun. This time we have not a sewing book, but an excellent knitting book—Mason-Dixon Knitting: The Curious Knitter's Guide: Stories, Patterns, Advice, Opinions, Questions, Answers, Jokes, and Pictures by two of my favorite people, Kay and Ann from Mason Dixon Knitting. This is their first book, which has just been released in paperback. If you are a knitter (or even if you aren't) you need this book. It's that good and that funny.
